A Golden Age-
The Hyrulian people lived in a golden age because of their fair and just King. He held the
Triforce of Wisdom. But as he could not live forever, the good King eventually died and left the Prince to be the rightful
heir of the throne. A magician, that was formerly a friend of the late king, informed the Prince that the King had informed
the Princess, Zelda, the location of the other parts of the Triforce. In jealousy, the Prince stormed off to Princess Zelda
and demanded that she tell him of the whereabouts of the other parts of the Triforce. But she would not tell them. So the
magician casted a curse on Zelda and put her into a deep sleep. The Prince tried to stop this, but could not. So in sorrow,
he laid princess Zelda in a room of the castle in hope that she would one day awake. Then he declared that from that day forth
that all women born in the castle shall be named Zelda. (When you see Zelda II, she is not the second, but the second Zelda
of importance Zelda III etc. and the same with Link)
Ganondorf Dragmire-
First male to be born to the Gerudo
tribe in the last century. King of the Gerudo thieves, Ganondorf Dragmire saw this as a perfect time to search for the other
pieces of the Triforce himself. But he needed to pass through the Temple of Time to get to the Sacred Realm. And to do this,
he had to collect the 3 spiritual stones from the 3 races within the land and needed to get the Ocarina of Time from the one
who had it that lived in the castle. So he went to the Kokiri to get the Forest stone, he cursed the Great Deku tree in his
attempt. He then went to the Gorons and sealed off Dodongo's cavern and raised the Dragon Psychominias from the dead. And
finally he went to the Zora's and made Jabu Jabu go mad so that Jabu ate Princess Ruto. Then he went to the castle in hopes
to discover the one who held the Ocarina of Time.
Link the First-
At about this time, because there was a
war going on, a young Kokiri woman was afraid for her baby's life. So she left him in the only safe spot--the Kokiri Forest.
The boy grew up always believing that he was a Kokiri, when in fact he was a Hylian. One day, the Great Deku tree called upon
him and told him all about her curse and about Ganondorf. She gave him the Sacred Stone of the Forest and told him to go find
Princess Zelda (the 2nd). Zelda II informed Link of the other sacred stones and told Link to go collect them, and he did.
After he collected the stones, he went back to the castle only to find Princess Zelda II running away on a horse. Following
her was Ganondorf Dragmire, who had obviously found out that she was the one who had the Ocarina of Time. He chased her, so
Zelda II threw the Ocarina back to Link, who then went immediately to the Temple of Time. He was able to open the seal to
the sacred realm to go through, but what he didn't expect was to see Ganondorf go through with him. Ganondorf would then steal
the Triforce just as fate would have it. Thus ending the Golden Age in the land of Hyrule, and bringing it upon a Dark Age.
A New Hope-
Link was sealed for 7 years in the Sacred Realm. Meanwhile, Ganondorf had the Triforce and
summoned all the greedy and selfish people of Hyrule to join him in the Golden Land to be part of his army, thus starting
the "Imprisoning War" as mentioned in the Hylian Scrolls. Because of Gannondorf's greed and self-love, the Triforce split,
leaving him with only the Triforce of Power. The Triforce of Wisdom was given to the disguised Zelda II (who was disguised
as the boy known as "Sheik") and the Triforce of Courage ended up with Link. Only six people, known as the sages, from all
from the land's different races could join together to seal Ganondorf and his followers in the Holy Land, but they had to
be brought together because Gannon had imprisoned them in different temples. Plus only the Guardian of Time, Link, could get
them out. Link awoke from his 7 year sleep and Rauru (a sage and human) informed Link of what was happening, and that he had
to get all the Sages together to seal Ganondorf away. Link's quest began. He rescued Saria-the Kokiri, Darunia-the Goron,
Ruto-the Zora, Impa-the Sheite, and Nabooru the Gerudo. Sheik made himself known as Zelda II and thus becoming the last sage.
The sages combined their power and made a bridge for Link to cross and fight Ganondorf Dragmire-to make him weak enough banish
him forever into the Golden Land. It was a tremendous fight, and when it looked like it was all over for Ganondorf, he used
the Triforce to turn himself into the Prince of Darkness-the beast Gannon. It was a long and hard battle, but Link was able
to beat him just in time, and without the help of the Master Sword. Finally, the sages combined their powers and sealed the
beast known as Ganon away forever.
A Masked Future-
A few months after his victory in the Imprisoning War,
Link returned to the forest only to be startled by 2 fairies that scared Epona, who reared and knocked Link unconscious. Then
came a 3rd body, the man wearing Majora's Mask, known as Stalkid. He quickly sealed Link into a Deku mask -transforming Link
into a Deku Scrub. Stalkid quickly jumped on Epona and ran off through a portal to a parallel dimension-to the land of Talmina.
Link was close in pursuit. In this land, Masks transformed Link into different creatures and gave him different abilities.
The 2 fairies from the beginning of the game came along and informed Link of whenever Stalkid was close by. Finally, it was
revealed that Stalkid himself wasn't evil, but that it was the stolen mask that was evil and made whoever wore it do evil
deeds. So the mask was returned to it's rightful owner, and Link I made his way back to Hyrule.
A new age of Peace-
Many centuries have passed since the Hero of Time did his little escapades, and Hyrule returned to a new land of peace.
The people eventually forgot about the Imprisoning war, and what it meant to the Land of Hyrule. So the sudden appearance
of drought and pestilence struck the people rather hard. The King had his sages check the seal to the Golden Realm, now known
as the Dark Land because Gannon was still in power over there, to see if it was still intact. And it was, so the King had
magicians try to cure the drought and pestilences, all of them failed but one. This man's name was Agahnim. As a reward, he
was appointed as chief advisor and heir to the 7.
Trouble Arises in the Kingdom-
As it turns out, Gannon,
who was still in the Dark Land, controlled Agahnim. Soon after receiving his position of Chief Advisor, Agahnim secretly murdered
the good King of Hyrule. His plan was to send all of the heirs of the 7 sages to the Dark land so the Seal between the two
lands would be broken once and for all. He was able to cast 6 sages to the dark land; only 1 sage was left-and that was princess
Zelda III. Princess Zelda III sent a Telepathic message to Link II's house seeing that he was the rightful heir of the
former Guardian of Time. Link II received the message in his dream he then awoke startled. He found his uncle armed with a
sword and a shield ready to leave to protect the Princess. He told Link II to stay behind even though he knew that the message
was meant for his nephew. Link II took off by himself afterward with nothing but his lamp to guide him. He was instructed
to take the hidden passage by the telepathic messages of Zelda III. He made it inside the castle, only to find his uncle mortally
wounded. His uncle passed down the Sword and the Shield to Link II, for he knew that only Link II could save Hyrule. So Link
II continued on, saved the Princess and brought her to the Sanctuary where she would be safe. He found out that the only way
that he could kill Agahnim was by slaying him with the Master Sword- the same one that was used to slay Gannon by his ancestor
Link I. This sword could be found in the Lost Woods. But the only way that he could pull it was if he had 3 magical pendants,
which could be found in the 3 towers and palaces around Hyrule. Link II collected these pendants, went back to the Lost Woods,
and pulled the Master Sword from its resting place. He discovered that Princess Zelda III had been kidnapped again. And when
he made his way to the Castle, he discovered that she had already been cast into the Dark World. And he himself was then cast
into the Dark World. His telepathic friend Sahasralla, in the desert, told him that the 7 sages had been sealed into 7 crystals
and were put into the heart of 7 Temples in the Golden Land\Dark Land. He can only return to Hyrule when these Sages where
released from their cocoon. It took a while, but he was able to do it. He was sent back to Hyrule to fight Agahnim. And this
time he defeated the evil wizard. But the rejoice was soon ended when it was discovered that Agahnim was really Gannon. And
like his ancestor, Link II slayed Gannon, and once again brought this land and the Golden Land prosperous once again. All
of Gannons deeds had been reversed. The King and Link II's uncle had come back to life, and the King appointed his daughter,
Zelda III as ruler over the Kingdom. And the first thing that she did as leader was to knight Link II. As a final task, Link
II returned the Master Sword to its rightful place in the Lost Woods.
An Island of Trouble-
Link II decided
to sail around the World in order to hone his skills and to build up his courage. He had purchased a sailboat and assigned
someone else to look over the knights. All was going well until Link II ran into a tropical storm that tore apart his ship
and left him for dead.
A few days later, a beautiful young girl named Marin found Link II on the coast of an island.
She took him in and gave him a place to sleep. After regaining consciousness, Tarin, Marins Father, informed Link II of what
was going on. You see, this island only exists in a Wind Fish, and Link II was sucked into his dream. But before Link II arrived,
an evil presence (The Shadow) had been sucked into the Wind Fish's dream and started taking over. The Shadow created minions
and Nightmares to guard the instruments that had to be collected in order to wake the windfish and escape. When the Shadow
had found out that Link II, the descendant of the Guardian of Time, had arrived it started creating followers like mad. So
now with this newfound knowledge, Link II went and he collected these instruments, and went to the top of the highest mountain
and defeated the Shadows and ultimately woke up the windfish. Link II then woke up to find himself floating on a piece of
driftwood. But was this adventure really a dream?
The birth of Link III-
After Link II had regained consciousness,
instead of heading for Hyrule, he decided that he still had to travel the world and gain more fighting skills. He arrived
in a land called Calatia. There he settled down and eventually passed away. He had a son named Arn, and Arn had a wife named
Medila. And Medila gave birth to a baby boy, who Arn named Link after his father. Link III had a spirit not unlike his Grandfathers.
He was good with a sword and he was a courageous, young boy. He decided to go out and look for something worthy to fight for,
and found it in the Land of Hyrule. An old woman was surrounded by a bunch of Moblins. Here, Link III ran forth and destroyed
all the Moblins that where harassing the old woman. The woman introduced herself as Impa, descendant of the Sage of Old. Here
she told him of the horrible tale of Princess Zelda IV and of the Land of Hyrule.
Exploits of a Youth-
As
it turns out, Gannon had returned and this time he had the Triforce of Power with him. Upon hearing this, Princess Zelda IV
broke the Triforce of Courage into 8 different pieces and scattered them throughout the Land. Hyrule was now in complete and
utter chaos with no sign of its previous glory. Zelda sent her nurse, Impa, to try to find help. Gannon then immediately captured
Zelda. So now Impa had found Link III, and Link III vowed that he would find the 8 hidden parts of the Triforce and fight
Gannon, to bring the Princess back. Link III started out to find the 8 parts of the Triforce, which were hidden, in secret
dungeons across the land. It was a grueling time, but Link III managed to get them. He then discovered Gannon's Lair, and
it was much more complex and it dwarfed the other dungeons that he had battled through. Link III discovered the Silver Arrows
and forged on. He eventually came upon Gannon's room. He challenged Gannon to battle. Gannon kept disappearing and reappearing,
making the battle almost impossible to win. Then Link III whipped out his Silver Arrows and strung them on his bow. His shot
was straight and true, and it pierced Gannon's heart, making him banished once again. In the next room, laid the Princess
of Hyrule, Princess Zelda IV. The Triforce was reunited into one once again.
Princess Zelda I-
After Link
IIIs 16th birthday, a strange birthmark was discovered on the back of his hand. He showed the mark to Impa, and Impa explained
to him about the legend of Zelda, and how Princess Zelda I was cast into a deep sleep, because she refused to tell the Prince
where the Triforce was located at. Impa then brought Link to the North Temple where their was a door that could only be opened
when it came into contact with the symbol on the back of Link III's hand. The door was opened and inside the room lay Princess
Zelda I, the legends where true.
When Link III left the temple, he discovered the Land of Hyrule covered in tons of
mischievous creatures brought back by the followers of Gannon. Link III had to go to the 6 Temples and place the crystals
into the corresponding statues in each temple. When this was done, the final temple would be opened. In the last Temple, Link
III fought tremendous foes, each double his own size. And once he thought that he had restored the peace to the land and revived
Princess Zelda I, a new enemy approached, his own shadow...
**Another point of interest is the number of Links
and Zeldas. I have put numbers next to them when each generation is born. Link and Zelda II are from The Ocarina of Time on
the Nintendo 64. Link and Zelda III are from A Link to the Past on the SNES and Link's Awakening on the Game boy. Zelda I
is mentioned in Zelda II (the game), as a Princess put to sleep generations ago. Finally Link III and Zelda IV are from the
original The Legend of Zelda games on the NES, The Legend of Zelda and Link's Adventure.
However, since interest has
become revived in Zelda, many people have been questioning which games go where in time. I worked out the order as being 5,
3, 4, 1 and 2, a theory I found supported by large Zelda sites, such as The Golden Land, and Zelda Headquarters. Shiguru Miyamoto,
creator of Zelda, has now apparently stated, that the order is "3, 5, 1 and 2, with 4 going anywhere". Which now really throws
us all into confusion. I still think my order is correct, because in that order, certain elements just work out. But it's
up to you. This is MY version of the timeline. It's not right, but its not wrong, it's up to you to decide which order you
think is correct.
Although I have never read any of the comics all the way through (I don't think they were ever published
in English fully), they apparently mentioned two special days during the Hyrulian year, according to several of my sources.
These were; Day of the Triforce - One day of the year when all the Triforces' powers cease to work. A Day of the Triforce
occurs once a decade. [Occurs in The Legend of Zelda Comic #5] Evil Power Day - Named this by Zelda Headquarters, when this
occurs 'Once a lifetime', all of the evil magic in Hyrule be harnessed by one wizard. Ganon tried to unsuccessfully blast
Link with a spell containing all of the evil magic, but it backfired. [Occurs in The Legend of Zelda Comic #2]

** The Faeries
The Faeries were created along with the Humans and the Hylians,
as the Gods' last creations. These creatures are in fact, tiny likenesses to people, and stand at the most, six inches high.
They have the delicate features and pointed ears of the Hylians, and have delicate, fly-like wings. Though usually slight
and lithe in form, it is possible for faeries to be all shapes and sizes. However, they mostly tend to be beautiful creatures.
They were made by the Gods to protect the flora and fauna of Hyrule, and indeed, to this day, you will find most faeries
living in the forests, or near springs or pools. It is said the true heart of the faerie realm is in the Ruto Forest, in West
Hyrule, but they have since dispersed all around Hyrule, and beyond. These days, faeries are rarely seen, and although they
seem to have a definite preference for the Hylian people, they are still wary and tend to keep to themselves. Indeed, after
being thought of as simply objects of amusement by many people, because of their small size, there are now far fewer in number.
It is thought that there is only one faerie between every three people.
All faeries are magically apt, and can do
many powerful spells, as well as being blessed with healing skills, which they will often bestow upon a weary traveler, due
to their generous nature. This generosity extends to wish granting. According to legend, a beautiful wish-granting faerie
lives in 'The Waterfall of Wishing'. They are quick learners, and most also know the ancient Hylian language. Most faeries
will pick a particular subject to specialize in - rocks or herbs, for example. They love anything of beauty and enjoy
celebrating most of all - Midsummer Night is a common time to see faeries together, often in forests.
The Hylians
The Hylians are often said to have been the Gods' 'chosen' people. Indeed, the first ever Hylians were like images
of the Gods themselves - tall with blonde hair and blue eyes. Nowadays, due to intermingling with other races, Hylians come
in all variations. Today, a Hylian born with blonde hair and blue eyes is often referred to as being a 'true hylian'. Usually
tall and slim, they have delicate features, long, pointed ears and long, thick hair, which never turns gray, but white. Hylians,
although small in number now, live the longest of any race.
The Hylians were originally held in high esteem by others,
which has resulted in a tradition of no one but the Hylians sitting on the Royal Throne. Although some Hylian kings and queens
did marry humans, their lineage is fairly pure, and can be traced back over many centuries. The Hylians were the first race
to master speech and writing; although their language is now commonly out of practice. However, a few people still learn it,
due to the fact that a lot of old books still exist, are written in ancient Hylian. They built the first great cities in Hyrule,
but of Hylian buildings and artifacts, little evidence of them remains.
The original Hylians had great telepathic
powers, but it is now a dying skill. They are however, blessed with great magical powers. Although Hylians are now seen as
equals to Humans, they still tend to be more refined and prefer jobs of a more artistic or creative temperament, than that
of manual work.
The Humans
Originally, Humans were the 'underdogs' of society. The Gods bestowed their blessing
upon the Hylians, giving them superiority over the Humans. Luckily, these days, society tends to be far more equal, although
there is occasional animosity between the two races, since they often think differently. Humans come in all shapes and sizes,
but in a rough comparison to the Hylians, Humans are more well built, and have more rounded features than that of their cousins.
Human men often have shorter hair than Hylian men, and both Human men and women usually have either curly or straight hair,
in varying colors. They are now the most widespread race in Hyrule.
Humans were the first race to discover methods
of farming, and such labor has been their job for centuries. Nowadays, they are skilled in many different jobs, their strength
making them good guards and manual workers. Human women are exceptionally skilled at healing, and many do choose to follow
this path. Humans also invented the current day language of Hyrulian, which slowly replaced the difficult language of the
Hylians. Humans too, are now learning the art of magic, although it is far harder for them, than the Hylians, who are naturally
adept in this skill.
The Humans are often said to the most friendly of all the races, and it is common to see taverns
and inns owned by Humans, due to their natural hospitality. Some Humans do feel resentful over the fact that the Hylians still
maintain the throne, but there have been no civil wars over it for several centuries. Instead, both races are working together
to stop the present evil of the wizard Gannon.
Gannon
Gannon is highly unusual. The wizard appeared from nowhere,
in 4520 HC, and has been the scourge of Hyrule for over twenty years now. In appearance, he is fairly large and heavy. His
face is like that of a pigs and he has deep red eyes and gnarled green skin. His hands are large, with razor sharp nails at
the end of each finger. Although he likes to levitate above the ground, he does have feet, which are similar to his hands.
He is the only creature seemingly of his kind, although Hylian texts describe the evil thief Gannondorf Dragmire,
in a similar fashion. Ganondorf reportedly took on these features when he resided in the Dark World, and it was this twisted
visage that reflected his evilness. Some believe they are related, or even simply the same person, resurrected several times
over.
Gannon is highly skilled in magic and he also owns the Triforce of Power. He rules over all of the monsters
in Hyrule and his main domain is inside Death Mountain, on the Southwest part of the country. Gannon is extremely evil, and
his Underworld kingdom should be avoided at all costs.
